The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday. 9.00 to 15.30 Saturday's from 10.00-15.00 and Sunday's as well.
9 kilometers west from the center of Tarnow are Wierzchoslawice - Wincenty Witos village. The memory of this Outstanding Polish was commemorated permanently by creating a museum of the houses he used to live and work in. Thanks to many years of solicitations of his family and peasant activists together with Stanislaw Mierzwa, Wojewódzka Rada Narodowa in Krakow made a vote that allowed establishing the museum
The museum consists of two farmsteads. One is a family house where Wincenty Witos was born and spent his childhood. The second is one that he build himself (1905 - 1913). And lived there until his dead.
Family house, also called as the "Old House" is an authentic example of country architecture of nearby Tarnow's villages. It was build in the first half of the 19th century. There are lots of items and household equipment used in the countryside at the time. They bear testimony to the level of material culture and economic ingeniousness of peasants in Wierzchoslawice.
The house is build according to rules valid at the time. There used to be the whole household under one roof. The walls are pasted with clay and each window is of a six- part construction. There is also a well with watercress in a farmyard.
The second and main part of the museum is the "New Farmstead" part of which is a house, two barns, a stable, and a cellar. The buildings are situated to form square. All the buildings are wooden, converted with tiles. The dwellers of Wierzchoslawice used to call this farm "Witosówka".
Museum exhibitions are permanent. They create an authentic inside of the Witos house and his family. There was preserved an original study room of a peasant premiere altogether with documents, manuscripts and other souvenirs. Life and activity of Wincenty Witos, is also presented in a photo gallery. In the barn there is an exhibition of farm tools, which once belong to Witos farm. The museum also owns an exhibition of historic flags.
Nearby the museum there is also a chapel .At a parish cemetery in Wierzchoslawice where we can find graves of Wincenty Witos, his family and his friend - Stanislaw Mierzwa
The memory of this eminent politician and statesman was honored Wierzchoslawice permanently. In places where he lived and worked has been created, the decision of the Regional Council in Krakow on 27 December 1971, the Museum of His name. The initiators and creators of the Museum was the family of Wincent Witos: daughter Julia and his grandsons: Wincenty Stawarz ,Joanna Steindel and a group of Witos friends close associates with Stanislaw Mierzwa at the helm. At then began to collect archival material, documents, photographs and other memorabilia associated with the person of Wincenty Witos and history of Peasant Party.
During the nearly 30th Witos Museum has become a major cultural institution - the science of the Tarnow. The first director was the granddaughter of Witos- Joanna Steindel. In 1975, after the administrative reform and the creation of Tarnow province was established regional Museum in Tarnow, which subordinated administratively and substantively Witos museum. To date, the Museum operates within the structures Regional Museum in Tarnow, as its one of the branches.
